Trying to give a modern twist to traditional watercolour and bridging the gap between illustration and painting, Phil has spent the last twelve months drawing and painting scenes from Sussex.

These are all places, buildings, scenes, whatever you want to call them, that have played a part in my life or that take me back to a specific time and place. There are some amazing memories put into these pieces and I hope others can get something from them too.”

Phil grew up in Bexhill-on-Sea, later moving to Brighton and now residing in Worthing. He scribbled and painted from a young age but when the monotony of ‘real life’ took over, he drifted away from art.

“I didn’t paint or create for years; got bogged down in a totally unrelated career and felt that I never had time to do anything for myself. I still had a need to create art and after painting a christening present for my niece I remembered how much I loved doing it. So I just started again. This exhibition is to show not only the journey of where I’ve been throughout my life but also a journey into rediscovering my love for drawing and painting.”

Phil’s ‘Year One’ exhibition will display over 20 pieces created over the last 12 months. Many of them will be for sale along with a small selection of numbered and signed prints. Phil will also be at Colonnade House throughout the week so make sure you come and say ‘hi’.
