Fiona Champion is a self taught artist with a passion for wildlife. Through her paintings she hopes to convey the love and respect she feels for animals whilst inspiring an interest in the plight of our wildlife.
Fiona has been lucky enough to see many animals in their natural habitat. She is inspired by the exhilaration of brief moments when she shares a place with a wild animal, and feels a connection as it acknowledges her presence. This is what she hopes to depict in her work. It is a thrilling and exciting feeling, and a huge privilege. Every animal she paints, she has encountered. Most of them she has seen in the wild, but some are from conservation projects and zoos.
Fiona paints in both traditional and contemporary ways, using a variety of media, depending on the sentiment she wants to convey. Traditionally, she likes to evoke certain moments in time. Her style is often fun, to make you smile, or bold, so that it is hard to ignore. Fiona also works as a sculptor, with her first two bronze (foundry hot cast) sculptures, an elephant and a cheetah, now available as limited editions. A limited number of ceramic sculptures are also available. She has also produced her first garden sculpture – a polar bear.
During the exhibition Fiona will be working in the space, so please visit to see both completed pieces and works in progress.
