Alight with colour

Colonnade House – Creative Hub is delighted to welcome Jan Bennett, Jo Dowers and David Webb to the gallery this June. Their work is unique yet complimentary, with each painter offering a fresh perspective and a wonderful colour palette.

Below is a more in depth description of each artist and preview of their work:

Jan Bennett

My name is Jan Bennett and I began working creatively in 1995 when I undertook a City and Guilds paint-effects and design course, which led me to experiment further.

Now I focus mainly on paintings, or 3-D sculptures using papier-mache and recycled objects, according to inspiration.  They are usually colourful and can be a little quirky.

Many of my finished pieces feature in my Littlehampton studio window displays, often combined with seasonally-influenced natural objects.

For more information, you can find me on face-book, or visit www.lostmarblesart.co.uk.

Jo Dowers

Since completing my Fine Art Painting degree in Leicester, I have continued to sketch & paint , regularly exhibiting in both solo & group exhibitions including having a piece selected & exhibited for the National Open Art Exhibition at Pallant House.

For some time my work has been based almost exclusively on landscape inspired by travels to Greece, France & more recently the Sussex down land & coastline, as well as by the vibrant watercolours of Raol Dufy & Turner.

Most often the paintings begin from small watercolour sketches developing into larger semi-abstract acrylic canvases using colour, wash & line to create a feeling of space & movement encouraging the viewer to form their own interpretation of the piece

David Webb

David is an artist from Rustington, West Sussex. His essentially emotive response to the environment is realised in oils and mixed media.
Work is based on sketches and studies made on the spot, and studio work is often a free
interpretation of these, based on strong composition and vibrant colour contrasts and harmony.
