We’ve met so many artists over the years, all who create unique works of art across a variety of different mediums.
For our Alumni exhibition, we’ve selected an artist for each year who has been connected to Colonnade House. From our first ever exhibition by Hala Sabet back in 2016, to those who have held a studio space here, had their first solo exhibition, and gone on to continue to exhibit and create.
2016
After opening our doors in 2016 – Hala Sabet was our first exhibitor. She is now back and has exhibited widely in galleries and venues throughout the United Kingdom and overseas.
Influenced by her Egyptian roots and cultural background, Hala has always been fascinated by Geo-metry (measurement of earth), its origins and how it develops an infinite array of possibilities and structures.
2017
We first met Walter Wall in 2017, he has continued to exhibit in our gallery spaces, and has continued to fill Warwick Street with contemporary colour. Walter probably wins the award for most solo exhibitions at Colonnade House, a total of 12!
2018
Hot off the heels from The Other Art Fair in Los Angeles, Ruth Mulvie took part in Worthing Artist Open Houses, and brought the LA sunshine to Worthing. The 2018 solo exhibition, ‘There’s No Place Like it’ featured magical images of Worthing nestled amongst flying elephants and candy floss machines.
2019
Over the past 10 years, Michelle Dawson has regularly exhibited at Colonnade House. In her self-titled exhibition in 2019, she used the Gallery as her own studio for the week, sketching the view and passers by. Michelle has continued with her creative practice, and holds regular art workshops for all ages at Montague Gallery in Worthing.
2020
In 2020, Alice Mara moved from Walthamstow to Worthing, bringing her creative practice with her to the South Coast. Alice went on to receive funding from the Adur & Worthing Trust, creating a series of miniature ceramic replicas of iconic Lancing buildings.
2021
In 2021, Tom Gillham became a trustee for Adur & Worthing Trust, bringing his creativity and skills to the project. From exhibiting with us in 2020, to becoming a trustee, Tom has continued to support and champion Colonnade House, continuing to exhibit with us since.
2022
Liz English first exhibited at Colonnade House, in February 2022, and brought her colourful & vibrant artwork to our gallery. Liz has also been the driving force behind our fantastic exhibitions with SOLD (Shoreham Opportunities For Learning Differences), supporting the trainees to design their own artwork & products.
2023
In 2023, Mel Elston-Mendones held his first solo exhibition for over a decade at Colonnade House.
Mel says; “I love exhibiting at Colonnade House. The gallery enables me to stretch boundaries and break new ground and, as an artist who lives and works locally, I always feel welcome here. I hope to tour with this collection, to widen and deepen the discourse on diaspora and liminality.”
2024
Sarah Trowsdale joined our studios in 2024 after receiving funding from Arts Council England Developing Your Creative Practice. Sarah has continued to use her studio as a creative space to develop new ideas through her research & textile practice.
2025
Matthew King graduated from Northbrook College, studying BA (Hons) Fine Art in 2008. After being involved with a number of group shows & open calls across Sussex over the years, Matthew took the plunge and held his first solo exhibition with us in 2025, going on to have another solo show the following year.
This celebration has been supported by Worthing Community Chest Grants for Growth.
