Michael Harbour: High Tides

Wired for Colour is a vibrant showcase of printmaking and painting by landscape artist Clare Buckle, whose synesthesia informs a deeply personal and intuitive use of colour. Synesthesia is a neurological trait where stimulation of one sense involuntarily triggers another. In this exhibition you are invited into a sensory world where colour takes on a unique emotional and perceptual resonance.

Clare’s recent work explores the way colour can evoke atmosphere and mood and suggest the history or value of a landscape through carefully considered variations or progressions in colour. The inherent repetition of the printmaking process enables layered applications of colour with photographic imagery, while painting allows a more intuitive and spontaneous response to colour, light, and shape in the landscape.

Shortlisted for the Westmoreland Landscape Prize in 2019, Clare originally studied at the Royal College of Art. In addition to her art practice she runs highly respected courses and workshops in Sussex and online.
