Artists Dee Rose & Mel Elston-Mendones join forces at Colonnade House, from the 16th to the 21st of August 2022.
Dee Rose
Dee Rose is a self-taught artist living in Ferring. She has had a life-long passion for art in all its mediums and over the years has dabbled in artistic endeavours ranging from casting in concrete to airbrushing bike tanks.
She considers herself extremely fortunate to have recently acquired the position of artist in residence for The Sand Project (a formal college based in West Sussex, helping young people with special needs).
Her artwork depicts the complications of life through colour, textures and symbolism. Years of accumulated materials are put into her art whenever possible. Upcycling is important to Dee, to give new life to something that might otherwise be discarded.
She inspires people to think about equality in all its guises. Within her art is a story to tell. She asks the questions “Do we have the right to judge?”, “How do we feel about speciesism?”, “Do we have room for narrow mindedness and ignorance in society?”, “How do we help people to believe that making small changes can make a big difference?”
Mel Elston-Mendones
Close your eyes, what do you see?
“Mel Elston-Mendones is a British, Filipino, and Latin artist who creates by guided intuition and by those subtle elements that light leaves on the retina, transforming light sensations, and emotions, into extraordinary visual compositions, true ‘metamorphoseable’ spaces depending on the direction from which they are viewed, spaces full of potential that stimulate our imagination.” Madalina Dragos– Bruxelles Art Vue
In 2022, Mel has shown work in Venice, during the Venice Biennale and won international awards in Canada, Spain and Belgium.
In June, Mel is showing in Los Angeles, in the world’s biggest NFT Art Collective and simultaneously on Broadway, New York, as well as Sao Paulo, Brazil and London. In July he is showing in London and Italy.
Mel is at Colonnade House, with a new body work, before going on to Zurich, Switzerland.
