Katie Sollohub’s project ‘IMMERSED‘ is culminating with a pop-up exhibition of work made during the project at Colonnade House this July.

The project is about cold water swimming and wellbeing, connecting the shared experience of swimming to the creative process and between March and August this year Katie has been swimming with, talking to, photographing, painting quick water
colour studies, and recording conversations with at least 66 sea swimmers.

Throughout this project, every day since December 2020, she has painted her own self portrait straight after her daily swim and having this exhibition at Colonnade House is an opportunity to see these self portraits alongside the portraits of the sea swimmers. How do they reflect her changing relationship to the sea and to the experience of swimming, and how was she affected each time by the person she was sitting with that day?

Also in the exhibition will be some sketchbook images made by participants of the project.

“I gave each swimmer a sketchbook and water soluble graphite pencil (keeping up the watery theme) as a thank you for taking part. Some of them have been kind enough to share their drawings and writings with me so I can include them in this show. I am so grateful for this opportunity to spread the inspiration and creativity that many of us have found though sea swimming.”
