Sussex based artist Mark Munroe-Preston brings his exhibition Lightscapes to the Colonnade Gallery in Worthing from 8 to 13 of March 2022. The show features a collection of his landscape artworks which draw their inspiration from the local Sussex countryside, where he has spent over twenty years exploring. The works are based on photographs of real locations, the names of the pictures are the coordinates where the photograph was originally taken, which have been enhanced to bring out the atmosphere and beauty of the locations. The artworks are presented on large sheets of Aluminium, which give the work a unique vibrancy and depth as it reacts to the surrounding light, which is not possible using traditional methods.
About Mark Munroe-Preston
Mark Munroe-Preston Mark was born in Yorkshire and studied photography at Wolverhampton Polytechnic. He moved to London in 1991, where he learned about the industry working as a photographer’s assistant, before going freelance. Since then Mark has worked as a still life photographer, digital illustrator for book publishers & magazines, a digital artist for several national newspapers, a children’s illustrator working in 3D and most recently as the Creative Director for an American toy company. Mark moved to Sussex in 2001 and it was there that he began to explore the local countryside, and particularly the Ashdown Forest and the South Downs National Park, with his dogs and his camera. It is from this ever-expanding collection of images that he draws inspiration for his work. These images are digitally merged with other photographs, paintings, drawings, textures, and found objects to create the final artwork. Some of the pieces are more literal interpretations of the places he has photographed, while others are more conceptual or graphic in their approach, but all seek to evoke the beauty, drama, and atmosphere of the surrounding landscapes. The name of his artworks designates the GPS location where the original photograph was taken and can be visited or found on Google Maps.
