Cacophony – Luminate – Mardi-gras a natural state

What would the world be, once bereft
Of wet and of wildness? Let them be left,
O let them be left, wildness and wet;
Long live the weeds and the wilderness yet.
Gerard Manley Hopkins, ‘Inversnaid’

Cacophony – Luminate – Mardi-gras is a three film installation exhibition with
soundscapes and photography. The exhibition is intended to highlight the
plight of Earth. Just as man has formed a huge impact on the planet we live
on and created control over its life force, man also has control over its
destiny. ‘Our morality now is entirely anthropocentric: we automatically
objective good by what is best for ourselves. ( Michael McCarthy ‘The Moth
Snowstorm’)

Three films will capture elements of natural life using film from uncontrolled
environments through sound – light and movement, all doubly expressed
with soundscapes created in response to the visuals.

Nicky Bell is a contemporary visual artist working with the medium of film,
photography and performance, currently based at East Beach Artist Studios
where she can be found painting in watercolours, where she runs classes and
workshops. Bob Burke is a musician and educator, he’s been lecturing music
at Southampton Solent University for over 10 years. They have collaborated
on other film/music score projects that have been shown locally and
nationally at small film festivals.

During the exhibition there will be three workshops open to the public,
where it will be possible to explore creating soundscapes in response to the
films on show, booking essential.
