Paul Cates is a London-based self taught artist working mainly in paint and installations. He has participated in many Art Trails in Worthing and in London over the years. Paul has also exhibited at The Peckham Pelican, on the subject of ‘Sleep – Where do you go when the lights go out?’ and 5th Base Gallery – Whitechapel Gallery, Brick Lane in London’s East End and has shown his work direct from his studio in London.
Some of the subject titles Paul has used are: ‘Behind Closed Doors’; ‘Why? Why Not?’; ‘Sleep – Where do you go when the lights go out?’; ‘ Abstract Art! Not just a pretty picture’. Paul is shining a light into his deeper thoughts and past memories to everyday occurrences. Paul takes his inspiration from moments of vulnerability and mortality. Paul says ‘when I see things, I don’t always see them in black and white.’ Paul loves painting as he loves the sense of achievement when after a few days, weeks or months you can produce something that was just in your mind.
In this exhibition, Gallery 1 will be showing art work that has been developed thematically over the past 10 years. In Gallery 2 there is a mix of art work arising from a variety of sources which has influenced Paul’s art practice over several years.
Paul would be pleased to discuss his work and the processes which lead to their creation.
All works are available to purchase.
Please ask Paul for further details.
