Stationary Durational:

Performative works by Lorna Allan & Joe Bunn

On the 30th April 2025, we waited.                                                                                                                    We weren’t waiting for anything in particular, we just watched and waited.                                        We waited in one spot for ten hours. We waited to see if anything would happen.                          Nothing did.                                                                                                                                                            Everything did.

Here are the results of our Stationary Durational.

Stationary Durational is a collaborative art project that reclaims waiting as an act of attention, presence and quiet transformation. Over ten continuous hours, we engaged in a shared performance of stillness and observation. One writing poetry, the other taking photographs. We documented the passing of time through the people, gestures and rhythms that unfolded in a single public space.

We invite you to reconsider what it means to wait. In a culture increasingly defined by speed, impatience and distraction, waiting is often viewed as empty or wasted time. We want to challenge this by revealing the subtle richness that can emerge when we remain still and look closely.

This work explores time, transience, and the deep humanity of pausing. The subject is not a specific location or event, but the everyday. It’s about what we see when we choose to observe a space and people moving through it; how they hold their bodies, what their faces reveal, and how time shapes the atmosphere of a place. The passerby’s are not posed, nor performing.

This may sound pretentious, but you get it, you’ve waited before, you’ll wait again, why not make the most of it?

During the week, we will be creating more durational works, and inviting you, the people of Worthing to combine our works in new and interesting ways.

On Friday 20th March there will be a special showing of our inspiration for the project, as well as performances from local artists.
