This event is taking place at Cellar Arts Club. Your ticket allows you entry to both screenings but you may wish to only come to one.
Selection of short films 18.00-19.00 // Burden of Dreams 19.30 – 21.30.
The Cellar Arts Club are delighted to be working with Colonnade House to present a selection of films for Films on the Gallery Wall 2020.
The programme will consist of two screenings. The first will be a selection of short films made by local filmmakers. There will then be a screening of Les Blank’s fascinating documentary about the perilous filming of Werner Herzog’s Fitzcarraldo, entitled: THE BURDEN OF DREAMS (1982).
Renowned film critic Roger Ebert’s review describes the film wonderfully, writing after the film premiered:
Les Blank’s “Burden of Dreams” is one of the most remarkable documentaries ever made about the making of a movie. There are at least two reasons for that. One is that the movie being made, Werner Herzog’s “Fitzcarraldo,” involved some of the most torturous and dangerous on-location shooting experiences in film history. The other is that the documentary is by Les Blank, himself a brilliant filmmaker, who is unafraid to ask difficult questions and portray Herzog, warts and all.
For those who have not seen Fitzcarraldo, we highly recommend you watch it. Though it’s not essential in order to enjoy The Burden of Dreams, it is a staggering piece of filmmaking and is available on the BFI player, here.
