Welcome to Paradise

Painting, Collage, Prints and more

Friday 15th September – Saturday 23rd September

10am-5pm

Local artists Ellie Bond and Anna’s Drawing Room are making a little piece of Paradise. Expect everything from bright tropical scenes to metallic abstract shapes, and immerse yourself in colour to celebrate the end of summer.

Find them in the gallery throughout the exhibition, making a botanically inspired window display and creating new work.

Ellie Bond:

A ‘Paradise’ of sunsets, plants and birds composed using a vivid arrangement of cut-out acetate, paper patterns and metallic foil. Fashion, Interior Design, Illustration and Textile Design – Ellie’s key interests. She has produced this rich colour palette and made these decisions on shape placement in response to these ever changing and inspirational design worlds.

Ellie is a part time Lecturer for Level 2 Art and Design at Northbrook College. Having studied Sculpture and Installation Art at Kingston University, Ellie went on to produce large works for the Edinburgh Festival and Marks and Spencer. More recently her textile creations led her to appear on ‘Crafty Beggars’ TV show and to have her Dolls on the front cover of Mollie Makes Magazine.

Anna’s Drawing Room:

Anna Vartiainen started Anna’s Drawing Room in 2013, designing bird and plant inspired art prints and cards. From selling at local craft markets, she now sells online, through shops and from her open studio, Paperbird Gallery at East Beach Studios.

For her most recent project, the self-taught artist has made a series of colour-infused leafy tropical scenes: a semi-imagined, idealistic ‘paradise’.

Beginning with line drawings in brush and black ink, the designs are brought to life with vivid digital colour. The series was in no small part inspired by a visit to the David Hockney exhibition at the Tate, where she found the scale and intensity of colour almost overwhelming.
