Using Music in Marketing // 10.15 – 11.30
Matthew Chapman from Muchas Music and Richard Kirstein from Resilient Music will delve into the use of music in marketing and advertising with a focus on social media platforms. Navigating the music licensing landscape can be challenging, especially in our ever-evolving creative industries. Content creators and businesses need to market themselves without the fear of takedown notices or legal issues. Matthew and Richard will cover the essentials of music licensing and offer guidance on how to use music safely and effectively to promote your business. There will be time built in for Q&A’s.
Matthew Chapman is the Director of Muchas Music, a music publisher and music library based in Worthing. Muchas Music offers a comprehensive array of services including bespoke music, commercial music licensing, production (library) music, sound design, effects, and audio editing. Muchas Music licenses audio to a diverse client list ranging from local car valeting companies and marketing agencies through to national television adverts and Hollywood movies. Collaborating with composers from around the globe, Muchas Music has crafted compositions for events such as the Commonwealth Games, Disney’s ‘The Marvels’ trailer and Britain’s Got Talent. Muchas Music makes its catalogue of library music accessible for content creators globally – easily licensed on platforms such as YouTube, Vimeo, Instagram and TikTok.
Richard Kirstein is the Director of Resilient Music and author of Music Rights Without Fights – the first and definitive guide on music licensing for brands. He set up his company back in 2010 to help brands buy music smarter. Music rights are complex and fragmented and so it’s not surprising that most advertisers struggle to understand the landscape and rely on their marketing agencies to source and license tracks. Whilst this approach is often creatively led, it can lead to difficult and expensive commercial outcomes. Resilient Music helps brands to buy licensed music from rights owners and at a fair price. Clients include Nationwide Building Society, Peroni and Jaguar Land Rover.
Use of Images and the Law // 11.45 – 12.45

Samantha will give the audience an outline of the landscape and issues and will then have plenty of time to answer specific individual questions.
Samantha Oakley is a commercial lawyer who specialises in assisting tech, media and creative companies.
