Meet Carole Waller
This year we’re celebrating 10 years of Colonnade House and will be sitting down with 10 artists to hear all about their creative practices. From painters, illustrators, sculptors and more, each artist is just one of the many who have been a part of Colonnade House over the years.
We sat down with our newest studio member, Carole Waller to find out more about her creative practice and her move to Worthing. Read on to find out more.
Can you tell us a little about you and your art practice.
I’m Carole Waller. I’m a painter. I’ve just come to the point in my career where I want to change my practice completely and stop what I have been doing, which is working with textile media to painting with either acrylics or oil paint, I don’t know just yet. Just for paintings sake.
Why did you decide to move to Worthing?
So I came to Worthing completely knowing nothing about Worthing, I came to Worthing because I wanted to live by the sea and I managed to find a flat with a fantastic view. For the first time in my life, I came to a place I knew nothing about.
What have you been up to since moving to Worthing?
I decided to organise an exhibition fairly quickly and I organised that before I even moved here so that I could meet new people and it’s been fascinating, because what I love here is the diversity of people, architecture, what there is to look at. The way you round a corner and it’s completely different from where you were two seconds ago and I think that diversity is really wonderful.
I had the exhibition for a week at Colonnade House and it’s a fantastic venue because people go by and the windows will bring people in if they can see something of interest. I met a wonderfully diverse crowd of people and there does seem to be a really interesting artistic community here that I’ve only just dipped my toes into.
