Meet Nimm Lampshire
This year we’re celebrating 10 years of Colonnade House and will be sitting down with 10 artists to hear all about their creative practices. From painters, illustrators, sculptors and more, each artist is just one of the many who have been a part of Colonnade House over the years.
We visited Nimm at the Superstar Arts shop to find out what they’ve been up to recently.
Can you tell us a little about you and what you do?
My name is Nimm, and I am the creative manager at Superstar Arts. Superstar Arts is a local charity that provides creative projects for adults with learning disabilities in the Worthing area. We run a day centre service that offers arts based learning where our artists can explore painting, drawing, printmaking, textiles, and 3D techniques. We have wonderful staff who bring their expertise and creativity to the sessions and this helps our artists to discover new techniques and find their own style and creative voice.
What have your been up to recently?
Recently we have been working on a new collection of artwork, getting ready for Worthing Art Trail. We’ve been working on some more paintings and drawings and printmaking and we have our shop in South Street which we use as a workshop and a shop but during the Art Trail, we turn it into a mini gallery so that people can come along and see our work and see what we do and our participants can help with invigilating and running their own exhibition.
What did exhibiting at Colonnade House lead to?
Colonnade House has provided us with a fantastic opportunity to showcase our artists work to have our own exhibitions. For our participants to see their work in an exhibition alongside new and established artists is a very proud moment for everyone.
Being part of the local art scene here in Worthing is really important to Superstar Arts. It allows us to be part of the creative community and showcase our work and the amazing abilities that our artists have. It encourages people to come and see our artwork whether we have a shop, or a local exhibition, or collaborating with other artists in the area. It’s a really important part of our creative journey.
