August Exhibitions

November brings us lots of colour and inspiration. Take a look at what’s on this month at Colonnade House.

Landscapes in Time
Open now – 12 November 2023 // 10.00 – 17.00 // Free

Landscapes in Time features the work of three artists. Amanda Duke, Chris Sedgwick and David Wise all have different approaches when it comes to landscape, but have come together, uniting around the singular theme of time.

You can find Chris Sedgwick’s Giccle print editions from drawn and paper collaged originals. Amanda’s boat trips around Newhaven and walking in Cuckmere Valley are remembered and recreated through careful collaging and layering of fabric or paper. David uses colour to create fluid geometric patterns woven around a grid structure in his ‘Colour Flows’ series.

The artists will be here throughout the exhibition where you can talk to them about their work.

Ruby Taylor: Rip It Up
Anthony Bennett: Now and Then
14 – 19 November 2023 // 10.00 – 17.00 // Free

Anthony Bennett’s latest exhibition is in part a mini retrospective. Now and Then will feature from some early works from a series concerned with railway stations in West Berlin, where Anthony worked for several years. The exhibition will also feature some semi-abstract works that have been completed more recently.

John Evans & Janet Branscombe: Fire, Form, Feelings
21 November – 03 December 2023  // 10.00 – 17.00 // Free

John Evans and Janet Branscombe have been working collaboratively with ceramics for over ten years, producing a unique collection of work. Fire, Form, Feelings will bring together drawings, paintings and ceramics, exemplifying their use of forms tempered by fire as vessels for feelings.

Janet is a painter by training but was introduced to ceramics by John. Responding to sensation by making a mark, or forming a pinch pot, Janet allows the form and image to develop organically. They experiment with ancient low fired techniques, time-consumingly burnishing their work to develop a natural shine without using a glaze.
