Photo Fringe is back in Worthing

The Photo Fringe makes its way to Worthing this October, celebrating the art of photography in this month-long festival. This year’s theme is Common Ground, a starting point for positive change with photography having the ability to bridge divides, challenge stereotypes and create spaces for collaboration and connection.

Outlooks on the English Countryside
8 – 19  // Colonnade House // Tuesday – Saturday // 10.00 – 17.00

For the first week of the Fringe, we’re joined by the Socially Engaged Art Salon and the BPOC Photographers Collective.

Outlooks on the English Countryside looks at the relationship between the English Countryside and Black and People of Colour communities using the lens of photography to explore ideas of belonging.

In the project, they try to reclaim and reimagine these spaces and expand notions of belonging, believing in the power of socially engaged photographic practices to create more inclusive and diverse spaces, especially within the countryside.

The Heart of Darkness – Landscape Photography & Decolonial Practices
08 – 19 //  Tuesday – Saturday // 10.00 – 17.00

The Heart of Darkness – Landscape Photography and Decolonial Practices by Gil Mualem-Doron, presents collaborations with Palestinian communities and individuals uprooted from their village and land in 1948 and who have been internal refugees since then.

These projects were formed through conceptual and collaborative photography sessions, archival material and landscape photography. Using mixed media, photographic prints and video, they depict the remnants of the village and the landscape created to erase and council its existence.

For Basia’s first solo exhibition at Colonnade House, she will be sharing a collection of work that has been inspired by both the beauty of nature and the architecture of cityscapes.

Using colour and shape, Basia creates a contrast between the organic and the man-made, highlighting how nature and architecture can work together in surprising ways.

Basia’s practice moves beyond photography with her creating sustainable, organic sweatshirts that feature her designs.

The Art of Participation
Open now – January 2025 //  West Shelter // Open 24/7

Having recently opened at the West Shelter, The Art of Participation is a new photography exhibition exploring the importance of creativity by photographer and art director Lorna Allan.

Lorna collaborated with a selection of Worthing creatives, Artists and Musicians to bring together this wonderful public art exhibition highlighting and celebrating the artistic community in Worthing.

The exhibition at the West Shelter also celebrates the launch of a new app, My Worthing which will support residents and visitors to make the most of their time in the town by providing up-to-date information on what’s on and things to see and do. The app launched in September and is now available for download.

“I got to know the creative community in all its breadth and depth. I found a town of people who experiment, create, and make things happen. I’ve been shown what an authentic passion, with humility and a sense of humour can achieve.”
