The Call to Care
A local Alzheimer’s Carers’ Support Group are putting on a script-in-hand reading of their play that highlights the experiences of those living with Alzheimer’s, their carers and support networks. The performance will be a dramatic experience for audiences, with readings taking place in libraries in Adur and Worthing.
About
A life-writing project by a small group of carers who met on the opening day of the local Alzheimer’s Society’s six-week Carers Information and Support Programme. They have carried on meeting regularly to support each other, share insights and information, and maintain a vital connection that helped them cope with their caring roles.
In ‘The Call to Care’ they tell their stories – their own and the story of the group.
Loosely structured as play-meets-life-writing, the project will be put on in the Worthing Library in Autumn 2024, to an invited audience. Well-known local author and playwright, Greg Mosse is our Script Consultant. He will also be hosting the after show discussion and Q & A.
Greg’s first career was in theatre as actor, director & writer. He has lived and worked in Paris, New York, Los Angeles and Madrid, mostly as a translator and interpreter for a variety of international organisations. In 2015, he returned to theatre, writing and producing 25 plays and musicals, plus four short films. He took advantage of 2020s lockdown to fulfil a long-term ambition to sit quietly and write a powerful thriller, The Coming Darkness (Moonflower). He has since written two sequels, The Coming Storm (April 2024) and The Coming Fire (tbc). At the same time, his 1972 cosy crime series, The Maisie Cooper Mysteries (Hodder & Stoughton) will reach its fourth volume in August 2024 with Murder at the Fair. He is also founder and leader of the theatre script development program Criterion New Writing. He is married to Kate Mosse.
Lynne Mishon – Project Leader and writer. Lynne is a BACP Accredited Integrative Therapist and Supervisor, and has a private counselling practice.
Sarah Garrett – Writer. Sarah also works as an editor and ghostwriter.
Vanessa Greenaway – Writer. Retired dentist and now involved in a variety of research and development projects.
