Celebrating the sketchbook for its own merits, this exhibition is the result of an open competition for local artists set up by Colonnade House studio tenant Nicky Bell. The sketchbook can be a diary, a thinking tool, a test bed and a place of free expression, and this show will be a privileged insight into what is usually a private space.

Originally intended as illustrations for a collection of poems, Shona soon realised that crows deserved her attention in their own right. In this exhibition she explores their powerful presence in paintings, prints, drawings and sculpture.

This is a double first – Karren’s first solo show in 12 years, and her first exhibition of large landscapes. Specialising initially in portraiture and exhibiting regularly in the Brighton Artists Open Houses, Karren has now found a new source of inspiration in the downland landscapes of her new home in Ferring.
