Colonnade House is a unique gallery space because it is hired by artists to create their own shows. This means that during their exhibitions, the artists are usually in the gallery, and are often making new work. It’s a wonderful experience to not only be able to meet the artists and talk to them about their processes, but to see them in action. We’ve seen everything from illustrators, painters, printmakers and textile artists experimenting and creating new things during their exhibitions.
During our recent group show ‘Pottery, Paint, Print & Poetry’, contemporary artist and Colonnade House studio tenant Nicky Bell delighted us by painting some large-scale watercolour and ink landscapes. She often favours a monochromatic and minimalist style and wet-on-wet method. Observing the inks running across the wet page is both exhilarating and therapeutic. Nicky teaches her unique approach at classes in her studio. Follow her @NickyBellArtist to find out more.
